Heartbeat of life…

Sitting on my verandah this morning, drinking coffee and breathing in the crisp air of a new day, my eyes were drawn to a light zipping around my garden. I watched, as a dragonfly danced its dance of life. I watched as it flittered from leaf to leaf, branch to branch, petal to petal. It knew what it wanted, going about its business in the early morning light.

Dragonflies reflect the light of the sun and are a reminder that we are light and can reflect light in powerful ways if we chose to do so. We can use light to prompt creative imagination as a force within us and our lives. It is said that dragonflies help us to see through illusions and allow our own light to shine in a new vision.

Dragonflies are great flyers, darting like light, twisting, turning, changing direction, even going backwards as the need arises. They are inhabitants of two realms – starting with water, and moving to the air with maturity, but staying close to home. In turn, words, like the dragonfly, are adaptive and powerful. They offer strength and wisdom, symbolizing change and a sense of self, balance and clarity.

As I begin writing today, my thoughts will turn to that dragonfly, that free spirit dancing and hope that my words will flow, and flitter and place themselves rhythmically on my page, pulsating a breath with every stroke of ink.
